History
The family roots as we know it...
Information passed down by our elders by word of mouth indicates that two brothers, Ittirachan and Thommichan in search of fames and fortune left their home town of Kudamaloor and moved southwards on a Vallam towards the then epicentre of trade Changanacherry. There they settled down and started the Kakkamthottil Family. They created a successfull line of business in the town. Ittirachan concentrated on the trade of rice while Thommichan preferred leather.
Thommichan travelled widely for his trade. On one such foray to Karthikappally a servere storm hit the area, and he was forced to stay on. A thoughtful family gave his shelter for the night. During his stay there he met the lady of his life. With the blesings of his brother he decided to marry her and settled in his wifes home town, Karthikapally. However, there he changed the family name to Anjilivelil. Now there are six families in Anjilivelil and 47 families in Kakkamthottil. They are widely spread throughout the world. The main concntrations of the family in Kerala are at Changanacherry, Karthikappally, Vazhoor, Konni, Kottayam, Thodupuzha, Ernakulam and Trichur. Many members of the family have taken flight to the USA and Gulf in search of greener pastures.
Kudumbayogam Initiative
The concept of organising a Kudumbayogam was suggested at a meeting held at the residence of Jolly Alex, Kakkamthottil, Pothodu, Changanacherry on 16 Jan 2000.
The meeting felt a long-standing need to trace the hostory of the family and document the same for posterity. A team consisting of K. A. Kurian (Thankachan), Dr. Thomas Kurian (Babychan), Baby Joseph (Babychan), Abraham Antony (Kunjumon) and Joseph Abraham (Jojo), visited Karthikapally and Trichur and carried out substantial research to this end.
A deliberate research effort is still required to trace the origin of the family beyond Ittirachan and Thommichan. This research may have to be focused towards any or all of the fllowing:
